Mayfield Church of England Primary School

At Mayfield CE Primary, we have a strong culture of working together to improve attendance. We are committed to providing an education of the highest quality for all our pupils and to providing an environment where all pupils feel valued and welcome. We are committed to removing barriers at home and in school, working together in partnership with families. We have procedures in place to support attendance which are outlined in our Attendance Policy which can be found here.

Regular attendance at school promotes children’s well-being, maximises progress in learning and helps children to flourish both at school, in the wider community and in the future. We believe that the most important factor in promoting attendance is development of positive attitudes towards school and learning. Promoting positive school attendance is everyone’s responsibility.

Research shows that children with high attendance:

  • make better progress, both socially and academically
  • find school routines, school work and friendships easier
  • are most successful in transferring between primary school, secondary school, higher education and employment or training

How do we celebrate attendance?

We celebrate classes with the highest attendance each week and children who achieve 100% in a term will receive a certificate in our Celebration Awards Assembly.

Holidays

We request that parents use the school holiday dates provided and do not take their child out of school during term time. Children who are taken out of school for holidays miss valuable learning and sometimes whole units of work which may not be retaught. A request for a holiday in term time will be unauthorised.

Is my child well enough for school?

Sometimes it can be hard to decide if your child is well enough to come to school. We advise that you use the NHS guidance.
